SFOL Recruitment Drive: September 1, 2006 - September 30, 2006
Sunday, August 27, 2006
Welcome to what, I hope, will be the 1st Annual SFOL Recruitment Drive. This drive is an attempt to raise the simmer base in SFOL and, at the same time, give current members of SFOL a way to earn a few MyPoints! At the same time. Here's how it works: Every member of SFOL that recruits a Non-SFOL player to any SFOL game will have the opportunity to get 5 MyPoints, and the person with the highest number of recruitees will get a bonus of 50 MyPoints!
The Rules are as follows:
Pretty simple, right' Have fun and let's help crank up the membership rolls in SFOL!!

Welcome Space Fleet's New Fleet XO!
Thursday, August 10, 2006
Please help me to welcome FSF Storm to Space Fleet as our new Fleet XO. She has been a host in FSF since 2004 and is a very active host. She is also the first recipient of the Martin St. Onge award for contributions made to FSF. She will be jumping in with both feet and starting a big recruiting drive, so keep a look out for more information about that. Welcome to Space Fleet Storm!

Saturday, July 15, 2006
As the webmaster and guy who redesigned the whole thing from scratch, I'd just like to say thanks to Margo for the nomination, and to all of the people who helped test the site both before and after it launched. Your hard work is very much appreciated and recognized!

Resignation of Aaron Scott, leader of Space Fleet
Tuesday, July 11, 2006
Dear Friends, Players, and Hosts,
It is with a heavy heart and a lot of happy memories that I am announcing my resignation as the leader of Space Fleet, effective Tuesday, July 18th, 2006. It's been a long journey, and I think that it's been an overall positive one. Unfortunately, between my professional life and my personal life, I don't have the time that's required of a good leader to continue heading up Space Fleet. As I have said to many of you on many separate occasions, "real life comes first."
While I will be resigning the position of Space Fleet Commanding Officer, I will be retaining my two hosting positions on the USS Archeron and Outpost 221, as well as my job as FSF Website Director. I will also be staying on as the webmaster for the Space Fleet (SFOL) website, located at http://www.sfolweb.com/.
FSF Margo, who has been our Fleet XO for over six months, will be taking over as the Commanding Officer of Space Fleet.
Ever since I took over the reigns of SFOL in 2003, I had one goal: Rebuild SFOL, and get it to where it was stable, so we could take the "training wheels" off again. I think that in the three years that have passed since that goal was established, we have greatly succeeded. We have eight awesome games right now. We've got our first message board and IRC games. We have successfully moved away from needing America Online to sponsor and host us. We truly are better off now than we've ever been.
I would like to thank the hosts of SFOL, both past and present. It's been a great journey, and I'm glad to be able to walk away with confidence that things are on a positive path for SFOL, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.
Thank you all for the opportunity to lead Spacefleet Online, and to see that I can leave it with confidence and a profound sense of accomplishment.
Soon-To-Be Former Leader of Space Fleet.

Time Change: USS Stargazer now starts at 11:00pm eastern
Friday, June 23, 2006
Just a quick update/reminder for everyone: The USS Stargazer, under the command of FSF Phalon and FSF Margo, has officially changed the TIME that it meets. The Stargazer now meets at 11:00pm eastern on Tuesday nights in the SFOL USS Stargazer chatroom (AIM/AOL).
Thanks, and keep coming back to Spacefleet Online for more games and fun!
More New Game Goodness!
Monday, June 12, 2006
As if things couldn't get any better for SFOL, I am extremely pleased to announce the addition of yet another new game to the fleet: Star Trek Deep Space Nine, a game based on the television series but taking place nearly fifty years after the series finale.
DS9 is hosted by FSF Icon and FSF Immortal, and meets Wednesdays from 10:00pm and goes on till 11:30pm eastern, and is really quite an exciting and well-thought out game. For more information, see our Schedule page!
Additionally, we are approaching the first anniversary of our merger with Federation Sim Fleet (June 25). Things are going very well for us, and SFOL is more active now than it has been for some time. Expect to see a State of the Fleet report up here on SFOLWeb.com sometime within the next few weeks. It will go over what's happened in the last year, where we are now, and what exciting projects and ideas you'll be seeing over the next wonderful year for Spacefleet Online!
Welcome to our newest hosts, players, and game!
Thursday, June 01, 2006
Sorry for the long time since the last News & Events update. Things have been busy and positive, as you'll see below!
First and foremost, welcome to our three newest hosts: FSF Poe, FSF Finster, and FSF Esrom! FSF Poe and FSF Finster are hosts who've joined us from our sister fleet in FSF, Delta Fleet. They are the CO and XO our newest game, the USS Pegasus!
The USS Pegasus is an IRC game - Space Fleet's first IRC game! - which you can access from the FSF IRC server. More information about that on our Schedule page.
FSF Esrom, also known as Dreia Frej and Vardis Kree, is our newest host and will be taking FSF Hawg's place as XO of the USS Exeter!
Welcome to all of our new people!
The passing of FSF Morpheus (Martin St-Onge)
Wednesday, February 15, 2006
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of a fellow friend and host, FSF Morpheus (Martin St-Onge). Morpheus has been with FSF since 2003, and in my opinion was one of the most friendly, most dedicated hosts that I've ever had the pleasure of working with.
Martin was always friendly to me, and I've never heard an ill word about him. He was a rare breed of person, who was always able to find something friendly to say about anyone, and was never known to get angry or upset. He was, as I like to say, a real class act, and he will be missed by all that knew him.
Martin passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2006 from brain cancer. He leaves behind his loving wife, Annie, and their three children. Written tributes to him are on the FSF Message Boards at http://forums.sb254.com/viewtopic.php?t=17181 and on the main FSF website at http://www.sb254.com/martinmemorial.php.
- Aaron Scott
SFOL Commanding Officer
Saturday, December 24, 2005
To all of our friends, our members, our former members, and everyone else, Margo, Ku, and I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukkah, Joyous Kwanzaa, and Happy Festivus!
Stay warm, be safe, and have a great holiday!
- The Leadership & Game Masters of SFOL
RAS Paragon wins SotM, and the USS Archeron prepares to set sail!
Thursday, December 01, 2005
First and foremost, congrats to the crew of the RAS Paragon, which is not only the SFOL Game of the Month, but has also won the contest in FSF to become the FSF Simulation of the Month for December 2005! That's two months in a row that Space Fleet has been FSF's Simulation of the Month! Great job to everyone in Space Fleet and on the Paragon for making a two month sweep!
Back in 1994, the USS Endeavour NCC-17156 launched, under command of TCapt Hahn and Cdr Katri. Ever since then, it's been a very fun game, and for me personally, it's been the game that I've always felt to be "my" game. I'm the only person left on the game who was there for the first sim, and so, it's with some sadness that I announce the final simulations of the USS Endeavour and the USS Trafalgar - both games that were originally created in SFOL's "Teen Fleet" from back in the 1990's - SFOL's strongest era.
Both ships have gone through big ups and big downs over the years. Both have had a number of CO's and XO's, and both have had - and still have - some of the most creative and fun players in SFOL in them.
The games aren't really canceling, though. Captain's Hawker and StJohn have decided to merge their two great games into one big, new game that has a very interesting - and somewhat different - mission.
The USS Archeron, a large (50+ decks!) exploration vessel, will be on an initial 3-year mission to explore the galactic rim, and explore the mysteries that lie beyond the milky way. First contact, space battles, scientific discovery, and all kinds of dangers yet to be experienced will be the norm for the crew of the USS Archeron.
The Archeron will sim under the command of FSF Hawker, FSF Scott2, and FSF StJohn on Wednesdays at 9:30pm - 10:30pm Eastern time, and will meet in the AOL/AIM chatroom "Spacefleet Games" (AIM link, AOL link). She'll launch on Wednesday, December 14, 2005.
Interested? Join us now for our launch!
Thursday, November 24, 2005
From Margo, Morse, and myself, we want to wish everyone in Space Fleet, FSF, and all of your friends and families a warm, safe, and tasty Thanksgiving!
-FSF Scott2, FSF Margo, FSF Ku
Welcome the new Space Fleet XO and 2O
Friday, October 28, 2005
It is with great pleasure that SFOL announces the two newest members of the Spacefleet Online Admiralty / FSF Fleet Command: FSF Margo and FSF Hawg. They have been selected to help lead SFOL in its new era of growth and expansion within FSF.
FSF Margo will be assuming the role of Space Fleet Executive Officer (FXO)/Deputy Commander-in-Chief, under command of FSF Scott2. She brings with her over seven years of simming experience within Spacefleet Online, as well as over two years of hosting experience. Her duties will include recruiting, personnel management, and assisting FSF Scott2 with the various leadership duties on a day-to-day basis.
FSF Hawg will be assuming the role of Space Fleet Second Officer (F2O). Hawg has been a member of Spacefleet Online for over a decade, serving on a number of games as both a player and a host. His duties will include serving as council for the FCO and FXO, helping to recruit, and will also serve as a formal "tie breaker" in case the FCO and FXO are deadlocked on an issue.
Congratulations to both Margo and Hawg, two of SFOL's finest hosts.
Problems with some AOL/AIM rooms
Sunday, October 16, 2005
Due to circumstances beyond our control, some AOL/AIM rooms have stopped working. I have put in a help ticket to AOL's Technical Support staff, but don't expect to get a quick reply, nor a quick solution, given AOL's track record of technical support over the last 13 years I've been a member.
That said, the USS Exeter and Outpost 221 have both become unable to access their normal game rooms. As a temporary solution, and for all room-related issues, Outpost 221 and the USS Exeter are going to begin using a room called "Spacefleet Games" to sim in. If/After the problem with the normal rooms is fixed, our sims will return to their normal rooms.
Here's some direct links to the new game room:
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions.
Thursday, September 01, 2005
Earlier this week, Hurricane Katrina completely devastated much of Louisiana, Mississippi, and the surrounding areas, leaving almost everything in its wake destroyed, flooded, or heavily damaged.
I'm very thankful to say that it looks like all SFOL members are safe and accounted for, but there are countless others who have lost everything - their house, their clothing, their personal items, their whole livelihood. They, and their cities, are going to be spending the next year, if not more, rebuilding their lives.
Bearing that in mind, if you have a few extra dollars, or food/clothing/blood/time/anything useful, please make a donation to either the American Red Cross, or to another charity (a list of other credible charities is at http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/30/help.agencies/). Both Spacefleet Online and Federation Sim Fleet now have links on their homepages directly to the Red Cross website (which is running very slow as of 11am on 09/01/2005) where you can securely make a monetary donation.
I encourage everyone who reads this to donate, and also to call/e-mail your family and friends, and remind them how much you care about them, and how thankful you are that they are safe.
Welcome to FSF Eclipse!
Thursday, August 18, 2005
After a few weeks of speaking with other FSF hosts, Space Fleet is proud to welcome FSF Eclipse into its ranks as the new Commanding Officer of the RAS Paragon, SFOL's first - and only - Star Wars sim!
Eclipse has been simming for over four years, is currently the XO of the USS Phoenix and is also the Leader of FSF's Online Gaming Guild. He is also a website designer, and has already created a new website for the Paragon, which you can view at http://www.sb254.com/sims/rasparagon/. Besides all of that, FSF Eclipse is also the first non-Space Fleet simmer to become a Game Master in Space Fleet - a symbol, I believe, of great things to come now that Space Fleet and FSF have completely merged.
Again, welcome to Space Fleet, Eclipse!
Resignations, New Hosts, and Community Service
Tuesday, August 09, 2005
First things first: It is with great sadness that I announce the resignations of FSF Ku and FSF Maxen, from Space Fleet and FSF. Ku, who was CO of the Paragon & the Exeter, XO of the Endeavour, and a player on many other games, has resigned due to a lack of time in his life to sim, but is moving on to some really, really great things. He'll be one of my best friends forever, and will be missed by all.
FSF Maxen, who many of you know as Ambassador TAerae from Outpost 221 and as the XO on the Exeter, has resigned from his games as well due to a lack of time and advancement of his career and life. As with Ku, he will be missed, and we thank him for all that he's given to us.
On a brighter note, I'm please to announce that our award-winning simmer, Hawg, has joined the ranks of Hosts in FSF, and will be taking the XO spot on the USS Exeter. Also, FSF Margo, the XO of the USS Stargazer, will be taking over the USS Exeter as the new CO, and together with Hawg, they'll be taking the Exeter to amazing new places in the 25th century.
Additionally, I, FSF Scott2, will be taking the XO's seat on the USS Endeavour.
Now, on to something that can make us all feel really, really good:
For those of you who don't know what the March of Dimes is, it's a non-profit organization that organizes and supports research and programs to improve the health of babies worldwide. They are a very, very wonderful organization that has helped countless people and children worldwide.
My best friend, Brian, is going to be joining them for their annual RIDE here in Maryland, where motorcyclists get sponsored and ride their motorcycles in a large, police-escorted group from one special location to another. The whole point of the ride is to raise money for the March of Dimes, to have fun, and to give back to the community.
With that in mind, Brian needs a sponsor. Last year, I proposed that Spacefleet Online pick a charity, and we collect money to donate to that charity. It never got off the ground, but I think this RIDE for the March of Dimes would be a WONDERFUL way for FSF as a whole to give back to the community.
While there isn't really a requirement to how much a participant needs to donate, he's going to be setting his fundraising goal to $500 - which I think is a very achievable goal. I, personally, will be donating $100.
For anyone who is interested in becoming a sponsor for my friend Brian in his RIDE for the March of Dimes, please click on the Make a donation link below, or send me an e-mail
Update 08/25/05: I removed the donation link since Brian's RIDE occurred over the weekend. Thanks to everyone who contributed!
FYI, we'll be sponsoring Brian as "Federation Sim Fleet - A Star Trek Enthusiast Group"
Here's links and information about March of Dimes and the RIDE:

Trek News: James Doohan has died
Wednesday, July 20, 2005
I'm very sad to report that James Doohan, 85, known for playing Montgomery "Scotty" Scott on Star Trek, has passed away today, at his home in Redmond, Washington.
Mr. Doohan had been ill with Alzheimer's disease for a number of years, and died peacefully in his home this morning around 5:30am PST.
On a personal note, 11 years ago, I went to my first Star Trek convention, and James Doohan was the main guest there. He was the first Trek actor I ever met, and he was just the sweetest guy to me, when I approached the autograph table shaking like a leaf (I was pretty young). He shook my hand, signed an autograph, and told me to "be good". I've always treasured that memory, and treasure it even more so now.
A topic has been started on the message boards. You can view and post about it there, at http://forums.sb254.com/viewtopic.php?p=146812.
Merger News and Website Changes
Thursday, June 30, 2005
Over the last two weeks, the merger between Spacefleet Online (SFOL) and Federation Sim Fleet (FSF) has been moving ahead pretty quickly. Here's some details about what's been happening:
A number of changes, both big and small, have happened to SFOLWeb.com, such as the new graphic at the top of the homepage, which reads:
Welcome to Spacefleet Online
A Sub-Fleet of Federation Sim Fleet
As mentioned above, our message boards have been migrated to FSF's website, although we will be keeping our old message boards alive on SFOLWeb.com. They haven't changed their location on the website, but instead of clicking on the Forums tab at the top to get to them, they are now linked from the Archives tab at the top.
The application to join SFOL, located on the top tab called Join Now!, now is directly sent to FSF, and by filling out this form, new members are automatically entered into the FSF AMS.
A number of other, smaller changes have occurred to the website, and over the next few weeks, a few more changes will be coming. I thank you for your patience and understanding while we're making changes and completing all of the administrative work to complete the merger.
As always, my door is always open. You can IM me at FSF Scott2 or FleetAdm Scott2 at anytime with questions.
Redesign and Town Hall Meeting
Tuesday, June 07, 2005
Lots of new stuff has happened to SFOL in the last 24 hours, so here's a quick update:
The SFOL Website has been officially redesigned (obviously, since you are looking at it now!). Please feel free to e-mail Fleet Admiral Scott with questions, comments, errors, and suggestions related to the website. Thanks to the people who beta tested the website for me on all different operating systems and browsers.
On June 6, 2005, there was an SFOL Town Hall Meeting. All members were invited to attend, and a good number of members, and non-members, were there. At the meeting, it was voted on and agreed that SFOL would, over the next few weeks, merge with FSF, a well-respected sim group that consists of many current, and former, SFOL members.
The chatlog for the meeting, which contains a number of very important details, is available to read on the message boards at http://www.sfolweb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1033, and has also been put into HTML which is viewable at http://www.sfolweb.com/townhall20050606.php.
As always, thanks for your support. My door is always open for questions.
Welcome to the redesigned SFOLWeb.com!
Tuesday, June 07, 2005
Welcome to the completely redesigned SFOLWeb.com, the home of Spacefleet Online - one of the longest-running online role playing games. A lot has changed with this redesign, so instead of taking you through a huge, long tour, here's an outline of the major changes to the website:
Those are just the major changes to the website. Take a look around and you'll see much, much more. If you have any questions, comments, or feedback (positive OR negative), feel free to e-mail me.

We've won an award!
Friday, April 29, 2005
Wonderful news: SFOLWeb.com, the official website of Spacefleet Online (SFOL), has won an award - and not one of those two-bit "This Star Trek site thinks we're cool" awards. A real award from a real organization.
So, without further adieu, I'm pleased to announce that SFOLWeb.com has won the American Association of Webmasters Gold Award for April of 2005. The Gold Award is their top honor for quality websites with quality content and designs.
Our website is now listed on the American Association of Webmaster's April 2005 Awards page, located at http://www.aawebmasters.com/gapril2005.htm, and our award image is displayed prominently on the SFOLWeb.com homepage.

Mini-updates to SFOLWeb.com
Friday, February 04, 2005
Lots of little changes to SFOLWeb.com today! Here's the round-up:

SFOLweb.com outtage recap
Monday, December 27, 2004
Over the Christmas weekend, SFOLWeb.com was attacked by a malicious worm that has been spreading through the internet, called "Santy". This virus searches google to find websites running phpBB message boards, as we do, and tries to exploit a now-fixed security bug. The website was not attacked by another SIM group. Thousands of websites were attacked the same way as we were by the same virus.
SFOLWeb.com did experience downtime over the Christmas weekend, however, the website and message boards have been properly patched, and no information was lost, nor were any attempts at breaking into our server successful. Big thanks to Sean, our server admin, for his expedient actions and heavy security.
Just for safety, we suggest that all members please change their passwords on the SFOLWeb.com message board ASAP. You can never be too safe, after all. Thanks, and happy holidays!
Welcome Cdr Matt Kinkade!
Thursday, December 09, 2004
Spacefleet Online is excited to welcome Cdr Matt Kinkade into our ranks. Commander Kinkade will be serving as the new XO of the USS Trafalgar, which sims on Wednesdays at 2200 EST. Welcome aboard, Commander!
USS Slayer's new website

Welcome USS Slayer
Friday, October 15, 2004

Made a few minor updates. Fixed the Game Schedule on the homepage to reflect the regular schedule changes. Also changed Mike Rock's rank and e-mail address on the Staff page.
Re-organized schedule page
Wednesday, May 26, 2004
The Schedule page was pretty hard to read, until this morning. It's much more organized now. Also, removed the USS Melbourne (which merges with Outpost 221 this Sunday), and added the USS Trafalgar's new time.
About Us rewritten; Cmdr Phalon promoted!
Wednesday, May 12, 2004
The About Us page has been re-written, since it was considerably out of date. I have also added a new page, How To Join, which has a form for people to use if they'd like to join SFOL, or just have a general question. Last, but not least, I have changed the SFOL Staff page to reflect the promotion of Cmdr Phalon! Enjoy!
Updated: Newsflash, Staff pages
Wednesday, April 28, 2004
Updated the Newsflash on the Homepage, and updated the SFOL Staff list and Leadership Structure on the SFOL Staff page.
Removed: Chat room page

Removed the Chat rooms page from navigation, since it was old and not valid anymore.
Added: SFOL Staff page
Wednesday, April 14, 2004
A new page has been added to the website, entitled "SFOL Staff." This page lists all of the current Admirals and Game Masters within SFOL, and gives a little background as to what they all do. Updated the About Us page. Also, I finally made some content updates to the homepage, and added a link to it from the left navigation.
Added: Today's Games
Monday, April 12, 2004
Added a new "Today's Games" display to the homepage, so that everyone visiting the website can get a good idea when the next game will be occuring. Thanks to DiGriz for the suggestion!

A few updates have been made to the site. Fixed a spelling error on the Webring page (thanks Cmdr Mike Rock!), and added a few new sites to the Links page.
SFOL's New Domain: SFOLWeb.com

SFOL's newest game, Outpost 221, is now on the schedule. The first sim will be towards the end of February!
Added: Stats meter
Monday, December 29, 2003
Added a stats meter to all pages on the site, to get an idea of how many people are visiting SFOLWeb.com, and how they are getting here. So far, on it's first day, we've had 213 visitors. :-)
Monday, October 20, 2003
I've added a new section to the website, called "Links". There's only four links there right now, but more will be coming soon! Check them out!
Saturday, October 11, 2003
We're back online!! After quite a bit of downtime (almost one whole week!) due to technical difficulties with our PREVIOUS ISP, SFOLWeb.com is now back online!
Minor redesign completed

SFOLWeb.com has undergone a minor redesign. The navigation is new and improved, and the website is now taking advantage of PHP and all of the cool things you can do with it. Please send any questions/comments/suggestions to the webmaster.
